Winding down, Gearing up!

Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are planning on heading north soon to spend the holidays with family and friends. I’d like to share with you an email message we sent out on Thanksgiving…some of you may have already read it but it is worth repeating:

This is a traditional day of giving thanks for the blessings in our lives....
I have a suggestion for the coming year...that we give thanks in advance.
What I mean is this...that we have an attitude of gratitude that we carry with us throughout the day.
As we begin each day, if we say no other prayer than, Thank You, we have opened our lives to the positive energy that prayer invokes. Trust in God (or whoever you consider as your Higher Power) to take care of us and let go of our worries and anxieties. Then, in all of our crises and strains and struggles in this life, we can always find something to be grateful for, a reason to grow and be enriched by our experiences.

Looking back on the last 2 months, I am amazed at all that has happened. Our 9th grandchild was born on Nov 3 to Melanie and Travis. His name is Little Jack, after his great-grandpa. He was delivered by C-section and everyone is doing wonderful,,,we can’t wait to go see him and  book his 1st dive class. Baby Jack

We have been diving a lot with Ocean Sports, in spite of the fact that on the 22nd of Oct, the water temp dropped 10 degrees overnight… We dive so much that it seems like the sea has adopted us. And we adapt to changing conditions like the creatures……sea lions grow a coat; we add more neoprene. Last weekend it was 65 degrees and we were wearing 9 mm/3/8 inch wetsuits plus hoods and gloves… you got to love it! Here is the link to critter pictures from October and November. Fall critters

San Carlos is beautiful this time of year. The days are warm and the nights are cool and breezy….the kind of weather which allows one to leave the doors and windows open and snuggle to the lullaby of waves breaking on the beach. Lots of our friends are returning for the winter and it has been wonderful seeing them and catching up.  Sailboats are going back in the water and people are “going across” to the Baja.

Funny how the growing season is generally over north of the border and here everything is in bloom and the vegetables and fruits are sold fresh from the fields in the stores. Not to mention that the crab and shrimp are fresh and cheap and really good. Can you imagine a kilo (2.2#) of fresh shrimp or scallops for about $11.00 US? Fresh crab is a little more expensive but not much. The shrimp are the big blue tigers that Guaymas is famous for.  Day in and day out, fresh seafood and salads …..good for the waistline and the budget.

Abigail, our sailboat, is on hold for now. We’ve decided with everything else that’s going on that we need to get away. So we’re going to Aruba in early Jan to dive. I know, I know, when you live a vacation it might be hard to imagine taking one, but such is our crazy, wonderful life and besides the water is soooo much warmer in Aruba this time of year.

Thanks to everyone who reads this and shares with us and gets enjoyment from our rambling prose. May you have a wonderful holiday and we hope all your hopes and dreams for the future come true. Please remember that to live to the level of your dreams one needs to forego the “what ifs and the yeah, buts” . In the worlds of singer and author Jimmy Buffet, “Some never find it, some only pretend, I just want to live happily ever after now and then”.

As a footnote, to all of you who may be looking for love in all the wrong places…trust your heart, put your faith in God and be patient…it’s all about the spontaneity. If anyone would have suggested to either of us over a year ago that we’d be living and loving this dream, we’d have said, no way.  Sometimes it ain’t easy and involves giving more than taking but it’s so worth it, having someone to share the ride with.

Oh, and wherever you are “it’s your friends who make your world”.
